A serious fire broke out on Wednesday morning along Burke Close in Roehampton, severely affecting a row of terraced houses.
London Fire Brigade responded swiftly, deploying six fire engines and around 40 firefighters to the scene after receiving the first report at 9:19am.
Three homes suffered significant damage to their ground floors, with visible smoke and flames billowing from windows upon the Brigade’s arrival. Despite the severity, four residents were able to evacuate before emergency services arrived. No injuries have been reported.
Crews from Richmond, Chiswick, Fulham, Battersea, and Wandsworth worked to contain the blaze, bringing it under control by 11:57am.
According to a statement shared by London Fire Brigade on X (Twitter), firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels and jets to battle the intense flames. Photos from the scene showed large smoke plumes rising from the rooftops, with scorched interiors clearly visible.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Firefighters are urging Londoners to ensure smoke alarms are installed and working on every level of their homes. The Brigade also reminded residents to close internal doors at night, which can help slow the spread of fire and smoke in emergencies.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is encouraged to contact the Fire Brigade.
