Putney.news is an independent local news organisation covering Putney and the wider Wandsworth area.
We publish original reporting, analysis and explainers focused on local government, planning, transport, housing, public services and community life. Published daily at 7am since March 2024, our work is rooted in public-interest journalism: explaining how decisions are made, scrutinising those in power, and giving residents clear, accurate information about issues that affect daily life.
Our accountability journalism includes systematic tracking of how local officials respond to residents – work that no other local publication currently does.
Independence
Putney.news is editorially independent.
Our editorial decisions are not influenced by advertisers, political parties, campaign groups or public bodies. We regularly report on – and scrutinise – the actions of local authorities, public institutions and other organisations operating in the area.
Advertising and sponsorship do not confer editorial control or influence.
Editorial standards
We work to the IMPRESS Standards Code, and we are applying to become a member of IMPRESS, the independent press regulator, so that readers have access to its standards and independent arbitration scheme.
We aim to uphold recognised professional journalistic standards, including:
- Accuracy and fairness
- Clear sourcing and attribution
- Distinction between reporting, analysis and opinion
- Transparency where information is incomplete or contested
- Prompt correction of errors when they occur
- Adherence to relevant media law and ethical frameworks
We welcome readers contacting us if they believe something we have published is inaccurate or misleading. Our complaints procedure explains how to raise a concern and how we handle it.
Our comment policy sets out what’s welcome in our comment sections and how moderation works.
How we use artificial intelligence
We use AI tools to help with research, analysis and production, but our journalism is written and edited by people. A person reviews and takes responsibility for every story before it is published. Where we publish an image generated using AI, it carries a visible watermark identifying it as such.
Corrections and transparency
When we make mistakes, we correct them openly.
Corrections are made clearly on the original article and logged so readers can see what has been changed and why. Our approach is to correct quickly, explain plainly, and retain trust through transparency rather than quiet edits.
Editorial team
Putney.news is edited by Kieren McCarthy, a practising journalist and editor with over 20 years’ experience. The editor is responsible for editorial standards, accuracy, and compliance with professional journalistic principles and media law.
The publication works with both staff and contributing journalists. We also work with trainee journalists developing their skills in local reporting. Trainee journalists interested in contributing to Putney.news can contact the editor at editor@putney.news.
Additionally, we welcome story submissions and contributions from residents who have information about local issues, events, or developments affecting the community.
