We’re having a quiet Christmas at home this year, just family, here in Putney. Tomorrow we’ll ride one of the vintage buses, and sit down to a meal made with ingredients from Dugard and Daughters and Putney Natural – supporting the local businesses that make this neighbourhood what it is.
It’s easy to spend the year writing about what’s broken, what needs fixing, what the council isn’t doing properly. That’s the job, and it matters. But days like today remind me why we do it.
We live in a wonderful part of London. Yes, the Putney Bridge junction is a mess and the council’s housing enforcement is inconsistent, and our High Streets need serious attention, and there are a hundred things we’ll keep pushing on in the new year. But we also have brilliant local shops, green spaces along the river, a real sense of community, and neighbours who look out for each other.
Thank you for reading Putney.news this year. Thank you for the tips, the suggestions, the stories you’ve shared, and the accountability you’ve helped us pursue. This only works because you’re part of it.
However you’re spending today – whether it’s a big family gathering, a quiet day at home, working to keep essential services running, or something in between – I hope it’s a good one.
Merry Christmas from all of us at Putney.news.
