The Friday morning Stormzy got stuck in Putney traffic just like everyone else

Except in this case, his Ferrari had run out of petrol.
Stormzy gets stuck on Putney High Street and meets local Jesse
When Jesse popped to the Tesco, he didn’t expect to run into a stranded Stormzy.

We’ve all been there, trapped at the junction of Norroy and Putney High Street by the Merkur Slots, watching the minutes tick by as traffic barely moves. But for grime superstar Stormzy this morning, the holdup was entirely self-inflicted – his Ferrari had run dry.

The multi-million selling artist documented the whole saga on Instagram, starting with clips of himself stuck in his supercar, visibly frustrated as Tuesday morning traffic began backing up behind him. But what happened next was pure Putney magic.

Rather than wait it out, Stormzy decided to own the moment. Out he climbed from his stranded luxury motor, and suddenly one of Britain’s biggest music stars was just another person stuck on Putney High Street – albeit one happy to turn his predicament into an impromptu fan meet-up.

Local resident Jesse, popping into Tesco for bread, witnessed the transformation. “At first I just thought, ‘God, that’s a nightmare place to break down,'” he told Putney.news. But within minutes, the scene had evolved into something special.

Word spread fast. Crowds gathered. Someone showed up with a professional camera. Locals offered cups of tea, suggested he wait in the library, even volunteered to help push the Ferrari to safety. Stormzy’s response? “Nah, someone’s gonna turn up and help me out, so I’m just gonna chill.”

And chill he did, for nearly 40 minutes, as one of the borough’s busiest junctions ground to an even slower pace than usual. But instead of angry honking and frustrated commuters, there were selfies and laughter.

“He was totally cool as you like,” Jesse recalled. “When I said ‘You’re gonna be driven mad,’ he just said ‘Nah, I’m just gonna embrace it – what you gonna do?'”

That’s the thing about getting stuck in Putney – we all know the feeling. The endless roadworks, the painful crawl, the mysterious jam that grinds everything to a halt. But rarely does anyone turn their traffic nightmare into a community celebration.

For Jesse, this was just another week in a surprisingly celebrity-filled life – he’d bumped into Chelsea’s Cole Palmer at an off-licence by Putney Bridge just days earlier. “My son’s not going to believe this keeps happening,” he laughed.

Eventually, a mate arrived with a jerry can, the Ferrari roared back to life, and Stormzy was gone – leaving behind a High Street full of people with unexpected selfies and a Friday morning story they’ll be telling for years.

The moral? Even megastars forget to check their fuel gauge. And sometimes, the best response to being stuck is just to get out, embrace it, and make someone’s day.

Though next time, Stormzy, maybe fill up at the Shell first?

  1. But…Who is Stormzy? Wouldnt it be a better world if we can all just be kind and generous regardless of who it is?

    1. Stormzy is a British rapper from South London. He’s one of the biggest names in UK grime music and hit it big with songs like “Shut Up” and “Vossi Bop.” His first album was the first grime album to go number one in the UK. Beyond music, he’s known for activism – he set up scholarships for Black students at Cambridge and speaks out on social issues. Basically a huge cultural figure in Britain, not just a musician.

And yes, we should all be kind and generous to the people we live around and interact with..
