You can always tell. Every neighbourhood has that one restaurant everyone needs – the one that’s packed on a Tuesday night while others sit half-empty. For Southfields, that restaurant is The Olive Garden on Replingham Road.
On our visit, the hostess had to check if there was even a table free. This is the kind of local Italian that becomes part of the fabric of the community: family dinners, birthday parties, midweek gatherings. It’s warm, lively, and has a reassuring sense of ritual – including staff who have the “Happy Birthday” soundtrack cued and ready at a moment’s notice.
Good energy
The Olive Garden hums with good energy. It’s friendly, casual, and fun, with staff who are both attentive and quick on their feet. When a dessert was accidentally knocked over, it was replaced instantly – with apologies, even though it wasn’t their fault. That kind of service is why people come back.
This isn’t fine dining, nor does it pretend to be. Instead, the menu leans into the classics – the dishes you want from a neighbourhood Italian. Our spaghetti carbonara was rich and satisfying, the spicy penne full of flavour. The pizza tasty and light. Portions are generous, the wine list reliable, and desserts verge on indulgent (the towering sundae is a case in point).
Value
Prices are fair for the quality and quantity. You leave full, content, and without a sting in your wallet – exactly as a local favourite should be.
