The District Line strikes are back on this week.
Two weeks ago East Putney, Putney Bridge and Southfields were facing four disrupted commutes in nine days before the RMT suspended the action after last-minute talks with TfL. The union was clear at the time that the dispute was not over. It wasn’t. Strike days are confirmed for Tuesday 2 June and Thursday 4 June, and all three stations will be affected.
The RMT suspended the May dates after TfL “shifted its position” in talks over the proposed compressed four-day working week at the heart of the dispute. No equivalent shift has been signalled since.
The strike is severe disruption, not a full shutdown. RMT drivers are striking; ASLEF drivers are not. TfL will run a reduced service but has warned there will be no trains before 06:30 on either day, and passengers should complete their journeys by 21:00.
Getting around
The South Western Railway service from Putney station is the strongest alternative on strike days. It is roughly 500 metres from East Putney station, runs direct to Waterloo, and operates six trains per hour off-peak. Buses on routes 22, 39, 74, 85, 93, 220 and 265 all serve the corridor but will be busier than usual. The Elizabeth line, DLR and Overground are unaffected and will be running, though expect them to be busy too.
TfL currently expects normal service on Wednesday 3 June and Friday 5 June, but check before you travel on those mornings.
This is the fifth story in our running coverage of the 2026 district line strike series.
