Fulham Palace Road closed after Audi hits motorcycle at Wardo Avenue junction

UPDATED A collision during the evening rush hour closed one of Putney’s main routes to Hammersmith.

Fulham Palace Road was closed in both directions after a black Audi SUV hit a motorcycle at the junction with Wardo Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

The collision happened at around 2pm, closing one of the main routes between Putney and Hammersmith just as the evening peak began. Traffic on all approaches to Putney Bridge came to a standstill as queues grew through the rush hour. The road has since reopened.

The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital. His injuries have since been confirmed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

Metropolitan Police officers, London Ambulance Service crews and London Fire Brigade all attended. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 4040/14May.

Wardo Avenue is a residential street running west off Fulham Palace Road, between Putney Bridge and Hammersmith. Fulham Palace Road carries the A219, the main arterial route between the two, and serves routes 74, 220 and 430 as well as providing access to Charing Cross Hospital.

London Ambulance Service statement:
Paramedics were called at 1.56pm and arrived within four minutes. An ambulance crew and a clinical team manager attended, treated one patient at the scene and took him to a local hospital.
