A person died after being hit by a train at Wandsworth Town station yesterday lunchtime.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called at around 11.50am (15 May) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Wandsworth Town railway station. Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
It is the second time in a month someone has died on the same section of track. A reader also contacted us to say they had been moved off the platform at East Putney tube station around the same time without explanation, before resuming their journey ten minutes later.
The death shut sections of the rail network through Putney for much of the afternoon. South Western Railway trains did not stop between Clapham Junction and Putney until around 4pm. London Overground services on the Windrush line did not serve the section between Wandsworth Road and Clapham Junction.
Trains between Clapham Junction and Waterloo started running again earlier in the afternoon. Services were back to normal by early evening.
Wandsworth Town station is already operating an amended timetable until 11 October 2026 while lifts are installed. Some trains do not stop at the station during midday hours even on normal service days.
While SWR services were suspended, tickets were accepted on London Underground, the rest of the London Overground network, and on local buses. Live SWR information is at southwesternrailway.com; TfL service status is at tfl.gov.uk.
