West Putney police have confirmed burglars have been targeting homes across the ward. PCSO Kordian Wojtowicz issued the alert on Saturday, warning of incidents across “multiple different properties within West Putney.” No specific streets or count were disclosed.
West Putney has seen rising crime in recent months, with violence in the ward up 63% in a year. Saturday’s alert is the first from the West Putney SNT in over a month.
The SNT is asking residents to take these steps now:
- Lock all accessible windows, even when you are at home
- Fit sash stops to sash windows
- Install key-operated locks or restrictors on ground-floor windows
- Do not leave valuables visible from outside
If you see something suspicious, call 101 or report online at met.police.uk. To report anonymously, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
To receive alerts directly from your local SNT, sign up at metengage.co.uk and search West Putney, or email WestPutney@contact.metengage.co.uk.
Earlier this week, Putney.news covered a similar advisory from Thamesfield’s SNT, which also flagged window security as a priority.
While it is useful for the Police to raise awareness, what is completely absent is what are they doing to keep us and our homes safe. Frequent patrols and hobbies on the beat would be a good starting point!
