The Wandsworth Arts Fringe (WAF) 2025 has officially launched, marking the beginning of a 17-day cultural extravaganza that will see over 180 events unfold across 65 venues throughout the borough. This year’s festival also forms a central part of Wandsworth’s tenure as London Borough of Culture 2025 .
The launch event took place at Sambrook’s Brewery, where attendees were treated to speeches, workshops, and performances. A highlight of the evening was “The Giant Wheel” by Autin Dance Theatre, featuring a 12-foot wooden wheel powered by six dancers, captivating the audience with its blend of physicality and artistry. Mayor of Wandsworth Jeremy Ambache opened the festival, emphasising the borough’s commitment to celebrating its diverse cultural landscape.
A Diverse and Inclusive Programme
Running from 6-22 June, WAF 2025 offers a rich variety of events, including theatre, experimental dance, live music, cabaret, comedy, and family-friendly activities. The festival has an open-access policy, encouraging participation from both emerging and established artists, and ensuring a platform for a multitude of voices .
Notable performances include two one-man shows by Green Curtain Theatre: “Call Yourself An Irishman?” by Declan Duffy and “The Irish Countess: Echoes of a Soul” by Anne Curtis, scheduled for June 7 and 8 at St Boniface’s Function Suite in Tooting .
WAF 2025 is offering over 60 free events and £3 tickets for Wandsworth Access for All cardholders. The festival also provides free tickets for sanctuary seekers residing in Wandsworth, ensuring that cultural experiences are available to all segments of the community .
Integration with Heritage and Youth Initiatives
This year’s festival coincides with the Wandsworth Heritage Festival, running from June 13 to July 13, combining contemporary arts with the borough’s rich history. Events during this period include heritage walks, talks, and exhibitions that explore Wandsworth’s past and its influence on present-day culture .
Youth engagement is also a key part of WAF 2025, with initiatives such as the Young Producers, Young Reporters, and Young Reviewers programmes. These initiatives aim to nurture the next generation of creatives and provide them with platforms to develop and showcase their talents .

As Wandsworth continues its year as London Borough of Culture, residents and visitors can look forward to a series of events beyond WAF 2025, including the Winstanley Past, Present and Future Festival, Country on the Common, and Battersea Park in Concert featuring performances by Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra .
