British champions return to Roehampton

Four of Britain’s biggest names in wheelchair tennis — Alfie Hewett, Gordon Reid, Lucy Shuker, and Andy Lapthorne — are confirmed for this year’s event, bringing with them an impressive 56 Grand Slam titles and 14 Paralympic medals.

Expect fast-paced, high-quality tennis on Roehampton’s iconic grass courts, with plenty of home support for the British players looking to lift the trophy.

Alfie Hewett

After reaching the final in Roehampton last year, Hewett went on to win his first Wimbledon singles title and complete the career Grand Slam. He credits the Roehampton event with helping him prepare for that moment.

“Playing in front of a home crowd on grass was a big boost,” he said. “This event keeps growing every year — it’s a brilliant chance for fans to get close to the action.”

Gordon Reid

Reid returns following a landmark year in which he and Hewett won their sixth Wimbledon doubles title and captured Paralympic gold, completing the career Golden Slam.

“I’ve played this event since I was a teenager,” said Reid. “It’s a special one — and Alfie and I are definitely going after the doubles title again.”

Lucy Shuker

A Roehampton finalist and flagbearer for ParalympicsGB in Paris, Shuker recently picked up her first grass-court doubles title in Eastbourne. She’s closing in on 90 career doubles titles.

“There’s something powerful about playing at home,” said Shuker. “The support we get at Roehampton makes a real difference.”

Andy Lapthorne

Lapthorne won the quad singles title here in 2022 and added a silver medal in Paris last year before capturing his 18th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

“Roehampton’s always been a favourite,” he said. “It’s competitive, it’s fun, and it’s a great chance to see the best in the world doing what we love.”

Tomorrow’s stars on today’s stage

The J300 junior event will once again feature some of the most exciting young talent in tennis. Last year’s winner Rafael Jodar went on to win the US Open Boys’ Singles title, while Iva Jovanic, runner-up in the girls’ draw, has already broken into the top 150 in the world at just 17.

The junior competition begins on Sunday 29 June, followed by wheelchair matches from Tuesday 1 July to Friday 4 July — a great chance to see top players in action before they head to Wimbledon.
