Mysteries – Solo Presentation from Laura Parker
Mixed-media artist Laura Parker hosts her debut solo show, Mysteries, at BobCat Gallery in the Putney Exchange. Now 74 and self-taught with a background in art history, she brings together work from a twenty-five year career – from representational landscapes to expressive abstracts, and from intimate still lifes to dramatic underwater views.
Her recent output is predominantly multi-layered acrylic and mixed-media painting. The natural world, particularly the flow and movement of water, is a constant reference point, and she describes finding greater self-expression lately in working more abstractly – exploring what a piece reveals or conceals, and setting up a ‘conversation’ within the work between calm and flux, clarity and mystery.
