Three women raise festival glasses of beer in front of racked casks at Le Gothique

The 17th Wandsworth Common Halloween Beer & Cider Festival runs from Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 October, 1pm to 11pm each day, at Le Gothique in the Royal Victoria Patriotic Building, John Archer Way, Wandsworth Common, SW18 3SX.

The list runs to 150 beers, lagers and ciders from new breweries and established ones across Britain, in cask and keg, with festival food and live music on Friday and Saturday. Day tickets cost £15 and include a free festival glass and a programme. The organisers invite drinkers to “come over to the Dark Side”.

The setting is the Great Hall and garden of the Royal Victoria Patriotic Building, the turreted Gothic Revival landmark on the edge of Wandsworth Common. It opened in 1859 as an orphanage for daughters of servicemen killed in the Crimean War, and in the Second World War it was the London Reception Centre, where arrivals from occupied Europe were questioned to catch spies.

A preview night on Wednesday 28 October, 6pm to 11pm, costs £50 and includes all beer and cider on the night.

Getting there: the 219 or 77 bus from Clapham Junction, getting off at the Windmill, or a 15-minute walk across the Common from Wandsworth Common station.

Tickets through the festival’s Fixr page, linked from legothique.co.uk/beer-festivals. Booking fees apply.
