Armenian Wine Tasting in London: Back to the Origins

12 November @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
£45

Discover Armenia’s ancient winemaking traditions, native grapes and remarkable wines in an expert-led tasting with Rooted Wines
Armenia is one of the places where the story of wine begins – quite literally! In the Areni-1 cave, archaeologists discovered the oldest complete winemaking facility known to date, dating back some 6,100 years. And yet, for many of us, Armenian wine is still a discovery.
This tasting is a chance to change that. We’ll taste our way through some of Armenia’s native grapes, from the golden Voskehat to Areni, its best-known red, and explore the landscapes, people and traditions behind the bottles. Along the way, we’ll talk about what makes Armenian wine different, how its ancient wine culture is being rediscovered today, and why these wines deserve far more attention than they currently get. Expect wines you may never have tasted, grapes you may never have heard of, and a very different side of the wine world.

About the host

Daria Ilina (WSET3, FWS, IWS, SWS) has been travelling to Armenia for the past 12 years, drawn back again and again by its wines, food, landscapes and extraordinary hospitality. Her relationship with Armenian wine has been built on the ground: visiting vineyards and cellars, talking to winemakers, tasting widely and following the changes in the country’s wine scene over the years. Along the way, Armenia has also become a place of close friendships and personal connection. Daria now organises wine and culture trips to Armenia, introducing others to the producers, places, tables and people that have made her fall in love with the country herself.
