Acts of kindness, bravery, and hope: nominate a hero today

New categories unveiled as nominations open to celebrate Wandsworth’s most inspiring residents

Wandsworth Council has launched its 2025 Civic Awards, calling on residents to shine a spotlight on the borough’s unsung heroes – the neighbours, volunteers, campaigners and changemakers who make Wandsworth a better place to live.

With six brand-new award categories introduced this year, the Civic Awards are expanding their reach to celebrate the full spectrum of community contributions – from environmental action and charitable work to acts of courage and cultural creativity.

The new categories are:

  • Community Champion
  • Environmental Hero
  • Bravery Award
  • Charity Champion
  • Cultural Champion
  • Young Person of the Year

Mayor of Wandsworth Sana Jafri encouraged residents to submit nominations:

“A Civic Award is one of the highest honours we can bestow in Wandsworth. It recognises people who go above and beyond for others – often without any recognition at all. This year, as London Borough of Culture, we’re especially keen to celebrate how community, compassion and creativity thrive in every part of our borough.”

The 2025 Award Categories

Community Champion: Celebrates individuals who help bring neighbours together, organise events, and foster community spirit. Whether it’s a single act of kindness or years of dedication, this award honours those who build stronger neighbourhoods.

Environmental Hero: Recognises people or groups tackling climate change, improving sustainability, or reducing environmental impact in the borough. From community gardens to waste-reduction campaigns, these are Wandsworth’s green pioneers.

Bravery Award: Honours exceptional acts of courage or resilience. Whether it’s saving a life, speaking up in adversity, or overcoming hardship to support others, this award salutes bravery in all forms.

Charity Champion: Acknowledges those who give their time, skills or voice to a charitable cause – from tireless volunteers to local fundraisers making a lasting impact.

Cultural Champion: Shines a light on creative individuals or initiatives enriching Wandsworth’s culture and heritage. Open to artists, organisers and community groups running projects that inspire and connect residents through arts, history or culture.

Young Person of the Year: For inspiring 11–18-year-olds making a difference through leadership, activism, volunteering or innovation. This award celebrates the next generation of community leaders.

Awards Ceremony – Save the Date

More Than a Trophy

Past Civic Award winners have included everyday heroes who stepped up in crises, young people leading change in their schools and estates, and residents who’ve devoted years to quietly building stronger communities.
