Fifty-six artists and makers in Putney and Southfields are opening their front doors this weekend and next.
There are 40 stops on the two neighbourhood trails, from a sculpture garden on Charlwood Road to a working pottery in a Southfields family home, established in 1963. Our guide below maps every one of them.
Both trails are open on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October, then Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, from 11am to 6pm. The art school and 5 Keswick Road open on the Sundays only, and four stops open on just one of the two weekends.
Putney and Southfields are two of four trails in this year’s Wandsworth Artists Open House. The others cover Furzedown and Tooting, and Balham, Battersea and Wandsworth, with 63 stops across all four.
That makes it a smaller event than last year, when more than 200 artists showed in almost 100 venues across the borough. This year the borough-wide event lost its funding, and Putney School of Art and Design stepped in to run a smaller version on paper maps, paying the costs that artists’ reduced fees do not cover.

Where to start
In Putney, Matt Shaw’s garden at 25 Charlwood Road holds what his listing calls “sculptures old, new and yet to be made”, in stone, ceramic, wood and mixed media. At the Putney Arts Theatre on Ravenna Road, four printmakers are showing etchings and screen prints. One of them, Yvonne Guerrier, showed at the theatre last year too, with a broken arm.
Robert Forsyth’s photographs of Scotland hang in a flat on Lacy Road that his listing places just beside the Jolly Gardeners pub. Up on Putney Heath Lane, Lucy Corr is showing mobiles and stabiles, kinetic sculptures made from recycled materials.
In Southfields, Tony Gant’s working pottery, in a family home at 14 Combemartin Road, dates from 1963. He was a student of the late Gwylym Thomas. On Cromer Villas Road, Fiona Moore and Cathy Stoddart are showing bright cotton quilts at number 18, and Alice Morgan has etchings and linoprints a few doors along at number 24. Ben Gibbon’s breakfast bowls and coffee cups are at 11 Elborough Street, on the second weekend only.
The art school opens its two Putney sites on the Sundays, 11am to 4pm. Its Main Campus on Oxford Road runs practical workshops from 1pm to 4pm that children can join, and the school café is open from 11am to 3pm. At its 3D Campus on Disraeli Road there are more than 20 ceramics and pottery stalls and tours of a new membership studio.
The organisers said in August that they hoped to return in 2027. Whether they can depends on funding.
