Gothic churchyard, colourful bunting and some of the best gelato in London

Leke Gelato pop-up brings La Gelatiera to Upper Richmond Road for the summer
Customers line up at a white gelato booth under a stone building, with colorful pennant bunting and ice cream cones on display.

There is a white tent in the churchyard next to Putney Arts Theatre serving some of the best gelato in London. On a day like this one, it is exactly where you should be.

The pop-up is run by Leke Gelato and serves La Gelatiera, a London artisan brand founded in 2011. La Gelatiera has collected 69 Great Taste Awards, including two Golden Forks, among the highest recognitions in UK food and drink. Its flagship is in Covent Garden. This is the only place to get it in Putney.

La Gelatiera’s signature is Honey Rosemary and Orange Zest, a Golden Fork winner that balances floral honey, aromatic rosemary and bright citrus. Alongside it: Matcha Green Tea, Clotted Cream, Halva and Pistachio, Lemon and Basil Sorbet, Hazelnut and Milk Chocolate. Eight flavours in total, cup or cone.

Assorted gelato flavors in a glass display case, labeled Milk Chocolate, Matcha Green Tea, Clotted Cream, Honeycomb, and Peanut Butter Caramel.

One scoop is £5.30, two £6.30, three £7.30.

Leke Gelato is open noon to 8pm, all summer, in a churchyard framed by Gothic stonework and colourful bunting.

Putney’s food scene has a new fixture. No fanfare, no franchise. Worth the trip on a day like this.
