It is a difficult Bank Holiday for London transport, with disruption across multiple lines. If you are planning to travel from Putney today or this weekend, here is what you need to know.
The District Line’s Richmond and Ealing Broadway branches are closed until Tuesday. Your Putney stations (East Putney, Putney Bridge and Southfields) are running normally, but if those branches were part of your route, you will need to plan differently.
Getting to Kew Gardens
The quickest route from South Western Railway from Putney Station one stop to Richmond, then a bus or the London Overground one stop to Kew Gardens. Journey time is around 30 minutes.
Getting to Ealing Broadway and West London
The District Line runs normally from East Putney to Notting Hill Gate, where you can change to the Central Line for Ealing Broadway. TfL is reporting disruption on this route today, so allow extra time. The journey is around 48 minutes in normal conditions.
Heathrow
Do not rely on the tube. The Piccadilly Line has no service between Green Park and South Ealing, which removes the direct Heathrow connection. If you need to get to Heathrow today, allow time to arrange a cab or check National Express coach options.
Wider network
The Victoria and Jubilee lines both have severe delays. The Central and Circle lines have minor delays. Check before you travel.
South Western Railway from Putney station is unaffected and running normally to Waterloo.
Albert Bridge remains partially closed to motor traffic, as it has been since February. Putney Bridge is the main river crossing for drivers.
None of this is connected to the RMT dispute. The suspended May strike dates have been replaced by two conditional dates in June, and the full story is here.
Correction: an earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that East Putney, Putney Bridge and Southfields had no District Line service this weekend. Those stations are on the Wimbledon branch, which is unaffected by the Richmond and Ealing Broadway closures. We apologise for the error.
