Plaque unveiling: Deaconess Isabella Gilmore

Part of The Wandsworth Heritage Festival 2024 and organised by the Battersea Society and the Diocese of Southwark.

Deaconess Isabella Gilmore 1842-1923 (née Morris, sister of poet/designer William) was asked to set up a diaconate for women by the Bishop of Rochester when she was widowed and nursing in Guy’s Hospital.

It ceased in 1970 at Gilmore house, where the plaque will be unveiled. Find out more about Isabella Gilmore.
