Crash-damaged car abandoned on Upper Richmond Road – police have no record

Buses manoeuvring around the black Audi A3 this morning on the TfL red route.

UPDATED A crash-damaged car has been abandoned on Upper Richmond Road at the junction with Gwendolen Avenue, jutting into the carriageway and forcing buses to squeeze past.

The black Audi A3 (registration RK06 WML) has severe front-end damage and was observed this morning in a position that is causing buses to manoeuvre around it on one of Putney’s busiest roads.

The road is a TfL red route, where stopping and parking is prohibited at all times.

Putney.news contacted the Metropolitan Police Press Bureau this morning to ask whether the crash had been reported. The response confirmed it had not.

“Can’t see that anything has been reported over the last few days,” the Met Press Bureau confirmed. “For us to look further we’d need confirmation it has been reported and when.”

It’s not known when the car was abandoned. It was first observed this morning.

Residents can report abandoned vehicles on a TfL red route to TfL at tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/red-routes. Alternatively, Wandsworth Council can be contacted to report an abandoned vehicle on the highway.

UPDATE, 3pm. Since we posted this story, the driver’s side window of the abandoned car has been smashed and glass is now in the road and the car appears to have been rifled through. The car’s keys are still in the ignition.

UPDATE, Friday 27 February: The car has been taken away.

  1. I went out to see the new M&S on Wednesday 25th March around 13:00 and there was nothing there. I noticed the car when I returned around 14:00 so the crash must of happened somewhere in that time frame.
