The Ship pub in Wandsworth has been named as one of the best 12 beer gardens in the UK – and the only one in London – by TimeOut.

The popular local located right next to the Thames was listed alongside idyllic pub locations in Wales, Ireland and Scotland as well as UK towns including Oxford and Brighton. And the timing couldn’t be better: the weather appears, finally, to have turned and the sun is out, making beer gardens that much more enjoyable.

TimeOut says of The Ship: “This Young’s-owned pub on the banks of the Thames dates back to 1786. It’s renowned for its hugely popular riverside beer garden, right next to Wandsworth Bridge, and serves up burgers and cocktails alongside some of the best sunset views in London.”

Quite how The Ship was picked out of the hundreds of delightful pub gardens in London, we’re not sure, but both the back garden and the inside of The Ship are local favourites – and even, to a certain degree, a secret given the location. It’s a lively crowd, especially on warm Friday nights.

As anyone who knows The Ship will be able to attest, their Sunday lunch is also pretty incredible. It pays to book.

As for Putney.news’ favourite outdoor pub locations, we would have to add The Telegraph on Putney Heath, the Duke’s Head down by the rowing clubs by Putney Bridge, the trio of The Rocket, The Boathouse and Coppa Club on the other side of Putney Bridge, The Spencer Arms that spills into Putney Lower Common, and The White Hart in Barnes.

Have we missed any? What are your favourites?
