Fiction & Non-Fiction Book Club – “Travels with Charley” by John Steinbeck

Waterstones Putney’s Fiction and Non-Fiction Book Club meets on Thursday evening to discuss Travels with Charley in Search of America by John Steinbeck – a beloved American road trip memoir that remains as resonant today as when it was first published in 1962.

In this charming and reflective travelogue, Nobel Prize-winning novelist Steinbeck sets off across America in a camper truck with his standard poodle Charley, rediscovering the vast country he had written about so memorably in works like The Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men. The result is a warm, funny, and sometimes melancholic meditation on identity, place, and the nature of home.

The Fiction and Non-Fiction Book Club welcomes readers who enjoy both literary fiction and compelling non-fiction narratives. Sessions are an hour long, free to attend, and open to all – whether you’ve read every word or are still working through the final chapters.
