Crime Book Club – “Fatale” by Jean-Patrick Manchette

Waterstones Putney’s Crime Book Club meets for a lively discussion of Fatale by Jean-Patrick Manchette, the iconic French crime novelist widely credited with reinventing the genre in the 1970s.

Fatale is a taut, stylish noir thriller following a mysterious female assassin who arrives in a provincial French town with murder on her mind. Manchette’s stripped-back prose and sharp social commentary have made him a cult figure among crime fiction lovers, and this novella is considered one of his finest works.

The Crime Book Club at Waterstones Putney is a welcoming group for readers who love a good murder mystery, a dark psychological thriller, or a classic whodunnit. Sessions run from 6–7pm and are completely free to attend – just turn up with a copy of the book and your thoughts ready.
