Tragic end to search for missing Wandsworth man

Family and community in mourning after 23-year-old’s body discovered near River Cray.

The search for Brandon Day, a 23-year-old man last seen in Wandsworth, has ended in tragedy after police confirmed his body was found near the River Cray in Crayford on Wednesday afternoon.

Brandon, a floor fitter from Crayford, went missing on Saturday 10 May after leaving Wandsworth Police Station at around midday. His family raised the alarm after receiving a final message from him saying he had just 1% battery left on his phone but was still “trying to get home.”

The Metropolitan Police had issued an urgent public appeal for information following his disappearance, prompting widespread concern and support on social media.

On Wednesday 14 May, emergency services were called to the Crayside Industrial Estate at around 3pm following reports of a body. Officers and paramedics attended the scene, where a man in his 20s was sadly pronounced dead. Police have since confirmed the body is that of Brandon Day.

His death is currently being treated as unexpected but not suspicious. His next of kin have been informed.

Brandon’s family confirmed the heartbreaking news on Facebook. Stuart Day wrote: “We have just received the news we’ve been dreading. A man’s body was found along the River Cray in Crayford. The police have just confirmed that it’s Brandon. We’re all devastated beyond belief.”

He continued: “If only he knew how many people loved him, I’ve been truly humbled. To everyone that knew and loved Brandon, there will be a time to remember the good times and celebrate his life. For now, we need to grieve.”

Brandon’s aunt, Rebecca Gosling, also paid tribute, saying the family was “in shock, absolutely devastated and grieving for our boy.” She previously described Brandon as a “lovely” and “caring” man known for his generosity and humour.

Tributes have poured in online from friends, family, and members of the public who were touched by the appeal to find him. The family thanked everyone for their support and messages during the search.
