Still missing — enquiries continue
End of day two By Friday evening, footage had traced a woman, seen with a dog the family believe may be Astra, street by street from Enmore Gardens to a bus and on to Clapham Junction. The family then paused the public side of the search, asking people not to post about the woman and to send any information to them directly, so that she is not frightened into anything that could put Astra at risk. Police take a full statement on Saturday morning. Astra has not been found.

The second day of the search for Astra, the black Labrador missing from Palewell Park since Tuesday evening, began with a drone in the dark and ended with a deliberate hush: a route traced street by street to Clapham Junction, and a family choosing quiet, police-led steps over a public hunt.

At 2am, a thermal-imaging drone flew over Palewell in the stillest hours, and its operator reported hearing a dog barking near the park’s edges that could not be located. By mid-morning, volunteers had knocked on every door along the Palewell side of Hertford Avenue, and every household confirmed the barking had not come from their dogs. The sound was never explained, and a specialist tracking dog worked the park through the afternoon.

The day’s defining lead came from a doorbell. A clip from Enmore Gardens, captured minutes after Astra went missing, showed a black Labrador walking beside a woman pushing a pram loaded with belongings. Through the day, footage and witness accounts extended the picture: along Vicarage Drive, down the full length of East Sheen Avenue, onto a 337 bus near Thornton Road at about 5.50pm, where she is reported to have asked the driver for help reaching Clapham Junction, and finally off the bus by the Junction pub, walking towards Clapham Junction station.

Volunteers checked cameras, resolved conflicting timestamps that turned out to be doorbell devices set to different clocks, and closed false trails as they went: a reported gym sighting in Chiswick came to nothing, and Thames Water inspected the tunnels along Beverley Brook, ruled them out, and said it would fit grilles to them.

The dog in the footage has not been confirmed as Astra, and the woman may simply have been walking her own dog.

As attention on the woman grew through the evening, the family stepped in. They asked supporters to stop posting photos and messages about her, to send any information or footage to them directly, and to leave the next steps to a careful, structured approach with the police, who take a full statement on Saturday morning. The concern, they said, is that frightening the woman could put Astra at risk if the dog is with her. The search for Astra herself continues, more quietly.

If you see her

Astra is a black Labrador with unusually pale, amber eyes. She may no longer be wearing her red collar, so a black Labrador with no collar should not be ruled out. She is microchipped and local vets have been alerted. If you see her, do not approach, chase or call out to her — a frightened dog tends to go to ground. Note where she is and call Lisa on 07824 822021. If you have information about the woman seen in the footage, please contact the family directly on the same number rather than posting publicly.

How the day unfolded
The story so far
Astra went missing near Palewell Park at about 5.30pm on Tuesday. On Thursday, dozens of volunteers searched Palewell, Richmond Park and beyond, with a thermal drone ruling out the park itself. How Thursday’s search unfolded.
2am, Friday
A thermal-imaging drone flies over the park in the quiet of the night. The operator reports hearing a dog barking near the edges of Palewell but cannot locate it. The family ask residents backing onto the park whether their own dog was barking, to rule the sound in or out.
First light
The family return to Palewell Park and the search resumes, focused on Richmond Park between Sheen Gate and Roehampton Gate. Posters go into schools, nurseries and stables, and riding groups alert their riders.
Mid-morning
Volunteers knock on every door on the Palewell side of Hertford Avenue. All confirm the 2am barking did not come from their dogs, leaving the sound unexplained. Posters spread to shops, a post office depot and the park security patrols.
11.15am
The appeal for doorbell footage produces the day’s defining lead: a clip from Enmore Gardens, captured minutes after Astra went missing on Tuesday, appears to show a black Labrador walking with a woman pushing a pram loaded with bags rather than carrying a child. The family ask the woman, or anyone who recognises the moment, to get in touch so the sighting can be ruled in or out.
Midday
A second strand emerges: a reported sighting of the woman and dog boarding a 337 bus near Thornton Road on Tuesday evening, heading towards Clapham Junction. The family later confirm the timing as about 5.50pm, with the woman reported to have asked the driver for help and not to have paid. A report is filed with the Metropolitan Police.
Afternoon
A verification push. Doorbell and CCTV checks refine the route, apparent timestamp conflicts are traced to doorbell devices set to different clocks, the Chiswick gym’s CCTV shows nothing, and Thames Water rules out the Beverley Brook tunnels, saying it will fit grilles to them. The tracking dog works Palewell Park, and volunteers seek to identify the woman in Roehampton, Putney and around Clapham Junction, without a confirmed identification. Police arrange to take a full statement on Saturday morning, and the family say bus CCTV can only be obtained through the police.
6.15pm
New footage from East Sheen Avenue completes the route: the woman and dog walked its full length after coming along Vicarage Drive from Enmore Gardens. Witness accounts place her getting off the 337 by the Junction pub and walking towards Clapham Junction station.
7pm
The family pause the public side of the search. They ask supporters not to post photos or messages about the woman, to send information and footage to them directly, and to let the next steps be taken carefully with the police, so the woman is not frightened into anything that could put Astra at risk. The page closes for the day with Astra still missing.
