DESCRIPTION:On Friday 8th May we are hosting a quiz night and live auction to help raise much needed funds for the ongoing Organ Campaign for All Saints’ Church\, Putney Common. \nTaking place at the church\, the quiz and auction will provide a social backdrop and enjoyable evening to bring the community together whilst helping achieve our goal. \nTickets are just £10 to secure your place\, with teams of 8 – either put a table together or we can create mixed teams on the evening. \nYou can register here: www.galabid.com/allsaintsputney \nLive auction lots include:\nA chilled bottle of champagne (so it can be enjoyed on the evening)\nMeal for 4 with a bottle of wine at The Spencer Arms\nFulham Football Club – Team signed and framed shirt\nWimbledon Tennis Club Museum Tour for 2 adults and 2 children\nTour of the Royal Ballet School for 4 adults\nStudio Pilates: 3 x Class Voucher\nPolo in the Park | A pair of Sunday Tickets \nFollowing the event we will also be launching an online auction with further prizes including a team signed Chelsea football\, 3 night stay in Bath\, a family stay at an Oxfordshire Hotel and more. \nHistorical background:\nIn 2024 All Saints’ celebrated its 150th anniversary. Designed by the renowned Victorian architect George Edmund Street\, with interior decoration by William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones\, the church is widely regarded as one of the finest and most complete examples of the Arts and Crafts movement in London. \nFor generations\, music has been at the heart of life at All Saints’. Pipe organs have traditionally provided the musical backbone of worship in churches\, accompanying the great moments of the church year – from Christmas and Easter to All Saints’ Day – as well as many of life’s milestones including baptisms\, weddings and funerals. \nThe church organ traditionally also support concerts\, teaching\, and community events. Unfortunately\, the original pipe organ\, installed in stages and completed in the 1890’s\, fell into disrepair during the twentieth century and was ultimately removed following the church fire in the 1990s. It was replaced by a digital instrument which has now failed. We are therefore running a campaign to install a new pipe organ worthy of this extraordinary building\, restoring live music to the heart of the church and ensuring the instrument can inspire future generations. \nThe new organ will include approximately 1\,350 pipes and 25 stops\, and will be designed to last for at least the next 150 years. The console will be movable\, allowing the organ to support concerts\, workshops and educational programmes\nthroughout the church. The total cost of building and installing the instrument is £350\,000. The appeal launched in September and I’m pleased to share that to date we have received donations and pledges totalling circa £200\,000 – so we are now on the back straight.
