SUMMARY:London Independent Photography Putney Barnes forum annual exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The annual exhibition is held during opening hours at the Putney Library. This year\, along with contemporary local images we have focused on ‘Past and Present’. Inspired by local photographer William Field’s images of the Putney High Street in the late 1800s we compare some same locations from back then and those of the present day. \nLondon Independent Photography (LiP) is a community organisation of amateur and professional photographers. Even when other forms of expression become difficult\, many people with dementia retain the ability to sing and respond to music. \nLed by trained facilitators\, each session includes familiar songs from different eras\, gentle vocal exercises\, rhythm activities\, and social interaction time. The supportive group environment helps both those with dementia and their carers feel less isolated\, while the focus on preserved abilities rather than lost ones promotes dignity and confidence. \nCarers benefit too\, gaining respite through shared musical enjoyment\, connecting with others in similar situations\, learning techniques they can use at home\, and experiencing positive moments with their loved ones. The hour provides a break from care routines while remaining supportive and purposeful. \nNo musical experience or singing ability is required – participation can be as active or passive as feels comfortable.
