SUMMARY:Putney: Casual/Social Board Games at the Coat and Badge
DESCRIPTION:Casual/Social Board Games at the The Coat and Badge\, Putney. \nThis is an event to play board games which range from light to medium in complexity and last about 15mins to 1.5 hours\, depending on the game. It can take about 5-15min to teach\, again depending on the game. \nI usually advertise which game I am going to bring a few days in advance\, in case you want to be familiar with the game(s). Other gamers may bring another selection of games\, so be prepared to be surprised on the day. \nAttendee numbers are dependent on who can bring and/or teach games and so can vary week to week.\nIf you have a game(s) that you are willing to teach on the night please do mention this in the chat and/or comments.\nMost of us are up for anything! \nHere are more details specifically about the Putney events: \nWe’re a friendly\, social group that regularly play a range of board games and card games. This event has been running since June 2022 and we have a core group of regular gamers but welcome new members who are looking for a games group to play on a regular or fairly regular basis.\nGames we play range from\, 30min – 1hour games\, to the heavier 2-3hour games. We alternate the weeks we play shorter games versus the longer strategy games (check the event title for which type of games are being played). \nQuicker\, fun\, social games we play:\n• Just One\nhttps://youtu.be/0DDRxztfJP0?si=QPavmMFE3DFipM-x\n• Skull King\nhttps://youtu.be/xlFHfCqY-5Y?si=X-U1WLP5JOI0oTcB\n• Planted\nhttps://youtu.be/BB5mwXFPrUA?si=oLor8WTSpLUs7B12\n• Project L\nhttps://youtu.be/EFV-qavWUlE?si=41_XhoZQvWs_9Zp2\n• 7 Wonders\nhttps://youtu.be/z_Wfdn5Es8U?si=-L3cLo2Uppdip2ow \nLonger\, Strategy games we play:\n• Lost Ruins of Arnak\nhttps://youtu.be/Kg2z4ApABY8?si=l46LNYRjQA_0QoZS\n• Terraforming Mars\nhttps://youtu.be/n3yVpsiVwL8?si=SW7VCdJpnqErKlIO \nWe like to start on time but if you do arrive late\, don’t worry\, it may mean you have to wait a bit until the next game starts\, but we always try to accommodate where we can. If it’s Strategy games night\, it is more important that we start on time as the games are longer and we want to finish on time.\nIf you know you are going to be late please just let us know your eta. \nThe event is free but please keep in mind that in order to have the space and run the event on a regular basis we need to purchase drinks/food from the venue. \nAlso\, please don’t sign up and not show up. Not only do you take up a spot for someone keen to play games\, but we have limited space that we need to reserve with the venue and no-shows jeopardise our relationship with the venue. Thanks for your understanding.\nHope to see you at a games table!!

SUMMARY:Country In The Afternoon Festival at the Half Moon
DESCRIPTION:Country In The Afternoon returns on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May for its tenth edition with an international line-up that will provide a wide variety of country and americana music over the two afternoons. \nWhen four best friends decided to combine their experience of standing ovations at the Grand Ole Opry\, Ryman Auditorium\, a wealth of West End theatres\, as well as their history as major label artists with numerous national tours & Radio 2 playlisting under their belts\, the results were always going to be exceptional. First Time Flyers are Vicki Manser\, Jake Morrell\, Poppy Fardell and Tim Prottey-Jones and they have an undeniable ear for feel-good melodies\, wrapped in the warmth of four-part harmony. Made up of four lead vocalists and multi-instrumentalists\, the band has launched to rave reviews and a busy schedule with a number of new releases in the pipeline. \nTwo Ways Home are the songwriters Isabella and Lewis Folkner\, hailing from Austria and the UK respectively\, fusing catchy melodies\, rich harmonies\, and rocky guitars to create a sound that is a refreshing blend of country\, folk\, and rock. Over the past years Two Ways Home have established themselves as a firm favourite in the UK country/Americana scene\, winning best duo at the 2020 Country Music Spotlight Awards and receiving consecutive BCMA nominations for best band in 2021\, 2022 and 2023. For fans of Fleetwood Mac\, the Lumineers\, and popular TV show “Daisy Jones & The Six\,” Two Ways Home are on an exhilarating musical evolution. \nIan Flanigan toured the United States for over a decade before settling in his current residence in Nashville TN. Three years of that decade were spent living full time out of a 24’ Winnebago. Originally from Saugerties NY\, Ian has a background in country\, Americana\, and folk; a true troubadour. He is a multi-instrumentalist\, producer and songwriter with Reviver Publishing. Ian is now beginning his second full length album with Reviver Entertainment Group while working closely with producer Jon Stone (of American Young fame) to create a unique lane in country music. \nJohn Wesley Satterfield has a lifelong passion for music and a deep commitment to serving others. Guided by his father’s wisdom\, he discovered guitar at the tender age of 12\, delving into the iconic songs of the 60s and 70s. Performing his first gigs at 14\, he explored punk and lent his voice to cover bands. More recently\, collaborating with acclaimed producer Misa Arriaga\, known for his work with remarkable country artists like Kacey Musgraves\, Willie Nelson\, and Ben Haggard\, John embarked on a new recording project. Together\, they have crafted a collection of songs that he hopes will resonate with country music fans around the world.

SUMMARY:An Evening With Kaliane Bradley at Waterstones Putney
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to be joined by Kaliane Bradley to celebrate the publication of The Ministry of Time.\n\n\nWe are thrilled to be joined by Kaliane Bradley to celebrate the publication of The Ministry of Time. Bradley’s dizzyingly assured debut is the book everyone is talking about\, and we’re truly honoured to be able to host her here in Putney. \n \nIn the near future\, a disaffected civil servant is offered a lucrative job in a mysterious new government ministry gathering ‘expats’ from across history to test the limits of time-travel. \nHer role is to work as a ‘bridge’: living with\, assisting and monitoring the expat known as ‘1847’ – Commander Graham Gore. As far as history is concerned\, Commander Gore died on Sir John Franklin’s doomed expedition to the Arctic\, so he’s a little disoriented to find himself alive and surrounded by outlandish concepts such as ‘washing machine’\, ‘Spotify’ and ‘the collapse of the British Empire’. With an appetite for discovery and a seven-a-day cigarette habit\, he soon adjusts; and during a long\, sultry summer he and his bridge move from awkwardness to genuine friendship\, to something more. \nBut as the true shape of the project that brought them together begins to emerge\, Gore and the bridge are forced to confront their past choices and imagined futures. Can love triumph over the structures and histories that have shaped them? And how do you defy history when history is living in your house? \n \n“Holy smokes this novel is an absolute cut above! Kaliane Bradley leaps into a storytelling league of her own. This book is a deadly serious speculative fiction but it is also one of the funniest books I’ve read in years. It is exciting\, surprising\, intellectually provocative\, weird\, radical\, tender and moving. I missed it when I was away from it. I will hurry to re-read it. Make room on your bookshelves for a new classic.” – Max Porter \n“As electric\, charming\, whimsical and strange as its ripped-from-history cast. (Extremely.) I loved every second I spent wrapped up in Kaliane Bradley’s stunning prose\, the moments that made me laugh and those that made my heart ache. This is a book that surprises as much as it delights\, and I’m already impatiently waiting for whatever Bradley concocts next” – Emily Henry \n \nKaliane Bradley is a British-Cambodian writer and editor based in London. Her short fiction has appeared in Somesuch Stories\,The Willowherb Review\, Electric Literature\, Catapult\, and Extra Teeth\, among others. She was the winner of the 2022 Harper’s Bazaar Short Story Prize and the 2022 V.S. Pritchett Short Story Prize.
