East Putney and Putney Bridge will have no District Line service for most of this coming weekend (13–14 June). At the same time, Thames Water is closing Galveston Road. Putney’s transport is under pressure yet again.
The tube
No District Line runs anywhere on the line until 10:30am on Saturday morning. After that, the Wimbledon branch (which serves East Putney and Putney Bridge) stays closed until 2pm. From 2pm Saturday through all of Sunday, both stations have no service in either direction.
These are the sensor works that reported on in May: monitoring equipment fitted to the existing infrastructure. But it is not, we should add, the signal replacement that would actually fix the line.
Your best option for travelling is South Western Railway from Putney station, at the High Street end of town. Buses 14, 22, 39, 85 and 93 are unaffected. Check TfL Journey Planner before you travel.
The road
Thames Water is closing Galveston Road at the Upper Richmond Road junction from early Saturday morning until 7pm Sunday. Multi-way signals are also in place on Upper Richmond Road between Schubert Road and Galveston Road, and stay until 21 June.
That’s not all: on Friday night there is a contra-flow on Putney Hill outside Lorne Court, and a lane closure on Lower Richmond Road opposite numbers 55 to 78. Both clear by morning.
The wider picture
Albert Bridge has been closed to vehicles since April. Wandsworth Bridge is down to one lane until the end of July. Both are still in place this weekend.
This has been the pattern all year. You are right to be frustrated.
