Don’t worry, Tequila Mockingbird hasn’t closed

Putney High Street bar undergoing January upgrade with basement still serving.

Tequila Mockingbird is taking advantage of dark, cold, rainy January to give itself a refresh.

The Putney High Street cocktail bar has boarded up its ground floor entrance while refurbishment work takes place, but the basement bar remains fully operational. Signage directs customers downstairs, promising the upgrade will be “worth it”.

The Mexican-themed cocktail bar, which occupies a striking Victorian building near Putney Bridge, has posted notices reassuring customers that service continues as normal throughout the works.

“We are open as usual,” the signs read. “Refurbishment January upgrade in progress. Head downstairs. Our basement is open and ready to serve.”

The venue features a “Late Night Tunnel Bar” in its basement level, accessible via colourfully tiled stairs. The work appears focused on the street-level entrance and upper areas, with the basement operating unaffected.

Tequila Mockingbird is part of a small chain with locations across London. The Putney branch, with its ornate black and gold Victorian frontage advertising “Daily Happy Hours” and a “Riverside Terrace”, has become a fixture on the high street.

The refurbishment comes as several Putney High Street venues have undergone changes in recent months, with some closures and new operators moving into empty units.

No completion date has been announced, though the signage indicates the work is a January project.
