The clocks have gone forward – and spring has sprung across Putney

Wandsworth welcomes lighter evenings and blooming parks as the clocks spring forward and British Summer Time begins.

Don’t forget to check you’ve moved your clocks forward – British Summer Time (BST) officially began at 1am on Sunday, 31 March, marking the start of longer days, lighter evenings and the first real signs that spring has truly arrived.

Yes, we all lost an hour of sleep, but it’s a small price to pay for the brighter evenings and the blossoming beauty already visible across Putney, Roehampton and Southfields. After months of grey skies and early sunsets, the clocks going forward feels like a turning point – a signal that the dark days of winter are behind us.

Putney

Putney is already looking radiant. Wandsworth Park, with its riverside views and blossoming trees, is a perfect place for a morning stroll or a golden-hour walk along the Putney Sculpture Trail. The Thames glimmers with new life this time of year, and the riverside pubs and cafes are beginning to fill with sun-seekers enjoying that extra daylight.

Roehampton
Why not have a weekend wander across Wimbledon Common and visit the windmill

In Roehampton, the edges of Putney Heath and Wimbledon Common are alive with birdsong, budding branches, and peaceful trails just waiting to be explored. The historic windmill, nestled in the trees, and the cosy café beneath it are local favourites for a weekend wander.

Southfields

Southfields isn’t missing out either – King George’s Park is blooming into life, with formal gardens, tree-lined paths and lakeside views that are now framed by daffodils and blossom. It’s the perfect setting for a picnic, a jog, or just a peaceful moment among nature.

Kew

If you’re feeling adventurous, why not make a visit to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew? From 15 March to 6 April, they’re hosting the “Sounds of Blossom” festival – an inspired mix of springtime colour and original music created by students at the Royal College of Music. It’s a unique, sensory celebration of the season, surrounded by cherry blossoms and magnolias in full bloom.

We’d love to see how spring is showing up in your neighbourhood. Whether it’s a burst of colour in your garden, a favourite tree in full bloom, or a hidden corner of beauty on your daily walk – send us your photos to spring@putney.news and help us celebrate the best of spring in Wandsworth.

The clocks may be going forward, but we’re stepping into something brighter. Summer is on its way.
