Part of Putney High Street suffered a power outage yesterday afternoon and evening, after a contractor installing new paving stones accidentally cut through a power cable.

The power loss lead to the closure of a number of restaurants and fast food joints including Wagamama, Five Guys, Burger King, KFC and Bosa.

A sign posted to the closed Wagamama door read: “Due to an unexpected power loss, we will be closed for today.”

Outside, on a stretch of the High Street that has been narrowed for several weeks to allow for the installation of a new bike path, adjusted traffic lights and new paving stones, a three-van electricity crew from UK Power Networks were working late into the night to patch the cable.
