Putney Thames favourite The Duke’s Head is relaunching its basement cocktail bar The Rowing Club next weekend just ahead of the annual Boat Race.
The ticketed relaunch party will run from 7pm to midnight on Friday 19 April and cost £5 – for which you get one free cocktail – and comes as spring arrives to bring the good weather back to Britain.
Nightlife in Putney, particularly on the Putney Bridge corner, has come alive recently with new bars such as The Boilermaker joining old favourites including Tequila Mockingbird and Simmons Bar – and started to become a destination for those looking to stay out later in South West London.
With renovation of the Star and Garter on the waterfront now also finally underway after years of being shut, Putney can look forward to people making the most of its famous river setting.
“It’s finally here! The relaunch of our gorgeous basement cocktail bar, “The Rowing Club,” reads the party’s blurb. “If you love cocktails and craft beer, this is the place to be! Join us for a tantalising tipple paired with music you can’t help but tap your foot to.”

My favourite is still Tequila Mockingbird.
